Meet Alison S. Lee, DO

Dr. Alison Lee is a board-certified sports medicine physician, osteopathic doctor, and the founder of Leeward Health + Wellness. She built this practice around a straightforward conviction: that patients deserve direct access to expert, personalized medical care without the friction of insurance gatekeeping, long waits, or one-size-fits-all treatment plans.

Her practice brings together three areas of medicine she has spent her career developing: sports medicine and musculoskeletal care, osteopathic manipulative therapy (OMT), and regenerative medicine - applied across both body and aesthetics. It is an integrated approach that treats the whole person, not just the presenting complaint.

  • Dr. Lee's path to founding Leeward Health + Wellness was shaped by a combination of competitive athletics, academic medicine, and a commitment to care that goes beyond symptom management.

Education:  Bachelor of Arts, University of Virginia (Division 1 Soccer)

Medical Degree:  Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM)

Residency:  Family Medicine, Abington Memorial Hospital

Fellowships:  Undergraduate in Osteopathic Manipulative Medicine, and graduate in Sports Medicine, Maine Medical Center

Certifications:  Board-certified in Family Medicine and Sports Medicine

Prior Practice:  Orthopaedic Associates of Maine—founding Medical Director of Maine's first orthopedic walk-in clinic, OrthoAccess

  • Dr. Lee grew up as a competitive athlete, playing Division 1 soccer at the University of Virginia. That experience gave her a first-hand understanding of the relationship between physical performance, injury and recovery, and a lasting belief that musculoskeletal health is foundational to overall well-being.

Her interest in medicine began not in a lab but in biomedical ethics, where she found herself drawn to the complexity of human decision-making and the intersection of science and lived experience. A formative stint in community-focused medicine in Cuba deepened her commitment to patient-centered care and shaped her conviction that medicine works best when it is built around the person, not the system.

After earning her DO at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM), completing a family medicine residency at Abington Memorial Hospital, and a sports medicine fellowship at Maine Medical Center, she joined Orthopaedic Associates of Maine, where she founded OrthoAccess—Maine's first orthopedic walk-in clinic. In 2020, she took the next step and launched Leeward Health + Wellness, bringing direct care sports medicine to Portland for the first time.

Today, Dr. Lee plays pickup soccer as often as she can, coaches her two children, and practices the same approach to active living she recommends to her patients.

"As a lifelong athlete, I understand what it means to want to stay active, recover well, and feel strong at every age. That experience shapes how I practice medicine - and why I built a practice that treats active people the way they deserve to be treated."  — Dr. Alison Lee, DO

Three Areas of Expertise. One Practice.

Leeward Health + Wellness is built on three interconnected pillars, each grounded in the same philosophy: find the root cause, treat the whole person, and give every patient direct access to physician-level care.

Osteopathic Manipulative Therapy (OMT)

Physician-led, hands-on treatment for pain, mobility, and structural dysfunction. Dr. Lee uses a full range of osteopathic techniques to address the root cause of musculoskeletal complaints - without surgery or medication.

Sports Medicine

Diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions for athletes and active people of all levels. From acute injuries and joint pain to PRP injections, ultrasound-guided care, and return-to-sport planning.

Regenerative Medicine

Biologically-driven treatments that stimulate the body's own healing processes, for both body and aesthetics. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) injections, PRP gel, exosome therapy, radiofrequency (RF) microneedling, hair restoration, PRP biofillers, and plant-based facial treatments.

Leeward Health + Wellness was one of the first practices in Portland to adopt a direct care model, and the first to apply it specifically to sports medicine. Direct care means no insurance billing, no referral requirements, and no administrative barriers between you and your physician.

You book directly. You are seen promptly. You get the time you need. And you know exactly what care costs before you receive it.

Membership plans start at $99 per month and include visits, discounted treatments and procedures, priority scheduling, and direct messaging access to Dr. Lee. A la carte visits are also available at transparent, published rates.
